The trust we have earned over generations and across the world is something we don’t take lightly. For us, it’s a clear reminder to constantly reflect on and reduce the social and environmental impact of what we do. That’s why we care about fair conditions and transparent processes across our entire supply chain.
Our brands stand for joy and quality — and we believe those should go hand in hand with responsible business practices.

We have set ourselves ambitious climate goals — because we truly believe in them. By 2030, we aim to cut CO₂ emissions across our entire value chain by over 30% compared to 2022.
In autumn 2024, our climate plan was officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming that our strategy aligns with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement — the most ambitious target for limiting global warming.
Here’s how we’re making it happen:
100% Renewable Electricity
All our sites are powered exclusively by electricity from renewable sources.
Producing Own Energy
We’re already generating part of our energy ourselves. In Varel, we operate four wind turbines, and since 2020, our Barsinghausen site has been powered in part by solar panels. Our logistics center and offices in Hanover also benefit from our own solar power.
Energy Efficiency and Reduction
Natural gas still makes up a big part of our energy use — we’re working on reducing that with more efficient technologies. Our supply chain team is constantly looking for innovative ways to cut down energy use.
Reducing Emissions Together
Most emissions actually come from our supply chain — not directly from our operations. That’s why we work closely with our suppliers to support their CO₂ reduction efforts. One example: our collaboration with the startup Klim, which helps farmers transition to regenerative agriculture.
Efficient Energy Management
As early as 2012, we laid the foundation for sustainable energy use by introducing and certifying an environmental management system based on ISO 14001 at our plants in Barsinghausen, Varel, and Berlin, as well as in logistics. In 2014, we transitioned to an energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001 – an important lever for conserving resources.
